This year Leeds Festival took place between 25th and 27th August 2017, with camping from the Wednesday (23rd).

The headliners were:

  • Muse
  • Kasabian
  • Eminem

Below is my Vlog of the festival, if you are interested.

Let me summarise the weekend by saying:
Leeds Festival 2017 was fantastic!

Me and Est went on a whim, deciding to buy a weekend ticket only a few weeks before the festival. We weren’t too interested in the music, but more the comedy acts!

We met up with Steve and Nick (Our festival crew) on the Wednesday and had a blast!

The Camping

I was a little weary of camping at the festival, since my first Leeds/Reading experience was Reading back in 2013.

That festival ended with a lot of fire and destruction on the last night, which I was not a fan of. Thankfully nothing like that happened this time!

We all had a great time, got drunk and had no issues with any of our neighbours.

The Comedy

As I said, we went to the festival for the comedy, which was amazing this year!

The main two comedians we went for though, were:

Bill Bailey

The greatest strange, alternative, musical comedian/actor there is!

He didn’t disappoint by the way. Just half an hour of brilliant comedy and comedy music.

Simon Amstell

We had just seen him a few weeks before and he was great, plus I had just started reading his book, ‘Help‘, of which some of his set was based.

The comedy was great, all about his sexuality and his coming out.

It was really funny, sex-positive and self-deprecating, which is my kind of comedy!

Music

While we didnt go to Leeds festival for the music, we were excited for the headliners.,

I was really hyped to see Eminem

Est was excited to see Muse

We were both excited to see Kasabian

And all three of the headliners delivered!

I really don’t like Muse, but I really did enjoy that set. Live music just makes it a better experience I think.

The highlight band however, was Korn!

We are big Korn fans, but seeing them try to engage a more mainstream audience was surreal.

Before playing “Y’all want a single”, Jonathan Davies had to introduce the crowd to the concept of it and entice them into singing along to the chorus.

“It’s dumb, but it’s fun, and sometimes all you wanna do is say ‘fuck that!'”

Jonathan Davies

Plus, during their set, we saw Bill Bailey in the background, headbanging to them!

Wrap Up

Leeds festival was an off-the-cuff festival for us, which we went to on a spur-of-the-moment decision. And it was the right decision!

The comedy was hilarious, the music was intense, the weather was suberb, and the atmosphere was brilliant.

10/10. Would go again.

My previous festival was Download Festival 2017.

My next festival was Download Festival 2018.
